Woody Ornamental Plant Breeder
Description:
Develop and manage long term, sustainable breeding program for Ball Ornamentals. Establish breeding objectives with input from Ball Ornamentals Management. Develop breakthrough breeding of woody ornamental products offering for the nursery industry, thereby increasing market share and profits for Ball Ornamentals. Document and communicate breeding activities as required by Ball Ornamental management. Focus on breeding core items as developed with Ball Ornamentals Management.
Minimum Qualifications:
MS or PhD in Horticulture and a minimum of 3 years’ + industry experience knowledge of all woody ornamental plants commonly sold in the Northern Hemisphere are required Knowledge of other woody breeding programs is highly desirable demonstrated ability to organize, manage and lead a breeding program, including setting up breeding parameters, trialing, as well as budgetary experience must possess self-discipline, initiative and ability to work under minimal supervision Proven ability to work in a team-based environment Exceptional communication, organizational and analytical skills Strong PC skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software Spanish language ability will be favorably considered. Physical Requirements Ability to travel on a regular basis 25-30% of time Walk in greenhouses, production fields, and open fields
